Summary

Ohio Energy Compare ("we", "the site", "the app") is a free tool that helps Ohio residents compare electricity and natural gas rates. We don't sell data, we don't track you across the internet, and we don't require an account to use the site or the iOS app.

What we collect

iOS app: nothing. The iOS app reads publicly available rate data and does not collect any personal information. It does not include any analytics or tracking SDKs.

Website: we use Google Analytics 4 to count page views and measure which features are used. GA4 stores a cookie that records device, browser, and approximate location (city level), with IP addresses anonymized. We never tie this data to a person.

What gets sent to third parties

• Google Analytics (web only) — anonymized usage stats.
• Anthropic — when you use the AI recommendation or compare feature, your monthly usage number, selected utility, and the publicly listed offer details from PUCO are sent to the Claude API to generate a response. No personal information is sent.
• EIA, Firecrawl, Firebase — used internally to fetch market data, scrape PUCO, and store offer data. No user data is sent to these services.

Cookies

The website uses a single Google Analytics cookie. There are no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking. The iOS app uses no cookies.

Data retention

Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months and then automatically deleted. We do not retain any other personal data.

Your rights

Because we don't maintain user accounts, there's nothing tied to you to request, correct, or delete. You can disable Google Analytics for your browser at any time using the official GA opt-out add-on.

Children

This service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the "Last updated" date above will move and the change will be summarized at the top.
